“What you leave behind is not
what is engraved in stone monuments,
but what is woven into the lives of others.”

Lucha Luz is beginning production on The World Wise Traveler,
the first documentary series about responsible tourism. The initial production
of this series consists of 12 episodes, each presenting, through a particular
location in the world and a specific aspect of tourism, ideas and advice for
travelers who want to act in a responsible manner.

The primary objectives of
The World Wise Traveler series are:
While the definitions of responsible tourism vary, the basic meaning of
responsible tourism is understanding and accepting responsibility for one’s
actions while traveling.  This includes making conscious choices,
minimizing personal impact and contributing positively to the environment,
culture, society and economy of the visited regions and countries.

The World Wise Traveler series will focus on the simple, accessible and
positive aspects of responsible tourism, and present numerous initiatives
that exist over the world.  Some of the responsible projects currently in
existence that will be presented in the documentary are:
  • Staying in an eco-lodge in the rainforest of Ecuador
  • Tasting organic and local food specialties in small French farms
  • Hiking in the Balkans peace park
  • Getting involved in a scientific research project about whales in
    Mexico
  • Experiencing a home-stay while trekking in the Himalayas
In order to reach a large audience, The World Wise Traveler episodes will be
available for television broadcast as well as DVD sales, and potentially
web-streaming.  Additionally, a website will be created to provide travelers
with an in-depth resource concerning the information addressed in the
series.  Finally, a feature-length documentary on the subject of responsible
tourism will be produced, summarizing the 12 episodes, in order to present
a more accessible overview of the subject.

Lucha Luz is in the early stages of production and currently pursuing funding
for this project.  Our proposal is available upon request by contacting us at
